Fort Gaines to Celebrate 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Mobile Bay

A Weekend of Special Events Bringing History to Life!

The Dauphin Island Park and Beach Board (DIPBB) and Fort Gaines are celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Mobile Bay Saturday, Aug. 2 and Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014.

Recently designated as one of the most endangered historic sites in America, Fort Gaines will host a two-day event highlighting the Fort’s integral role in the Battle of Mobile Bay. The action-packed weekend will also showcase a Naval Battle, stories by famous Civil Way Photographer Matthew Brady, and historical reenactments!

“It is going to be a great weekend with lots of fun for the whole family,” said Matthew Capps, executive director of DIPBB. “ We have professional re-enactors from across the nation coming in to commemorate the Sesquicentennial of the Battle of Mobile Bay and Siege of Fort Gaines. It is an opportunity to surround yourself with amazing Civil War history right here on the Island.”
